Alberta Containers has been selling and renting storage containers since 1999. The Company operates in Edmonton, Alberta on 1.5 acres titled to the President of the Company.

The Company is a family business.

The yard location is conveniently located 1 block north of the Yellow Head trail, a major truck route, in Edmonton Alberta. Ideally we strive to keep 100 - 125 containers in our inventory. The inventory consists primarily 20' and 40' new and used storage containers. We also carry 8', 10' new container and 48' domestic containers. Our extensive network of suppliers allows us to purchase custom containers such as reefers, open top containers or high cube containers.

Marine cargo container is the most accurate descriptive name for the containers. However they are often referred to as sea-cans, c-cans, big steel boxes, ship containers, cans or storage containers.

A used container will enter the sales market under different circumstances depending on the policy of the shipping or leasing Company. Some Companies sell their containers to container broker upon expiry of the 5-year certification plate. Some Companies have a policy of depreciating the container value for 10 or 12 years then sell them. In some cases the cost of storing empty containers becomes a financial burden so they are sold to a container broker such as Alberta Containers.

The sale of new containers has grown in the last 5 years. A Leasing or Shipping line will purchase a large quantity of containers from the Chinese factories at a preferred rate, They will receive payment for use of the container to move goods to North America. After arrival and when the container is emptied, they will add value to the container and sell it to a container broker. This precludes the need to store the container as it waits for a scarce return load back to China or elsewhere.
